Since its inception in 2009, the Biology Teachers Association of Goa (BIOTAG) has been actively involved in organizing a wide range of initiatives aimed at benefiting both students and biology teachers across Goa.
One of BIOTAG’s flagship programs is the All Goa Inter Higher Secondary Biology Quiz Competition, which has been conducted annually since 2009. This event continues to grow each year, attracting participation from an increasing number of higher secondary schools across the state. It has become a cornerstone in promoting scientific curiosity and academic excellence among biology students.
In 2018, BIOTAG took another significant step by initiating efforts to standardize the performance and documentation of biology practical’s across higher secondary schools. With the support and consensus of biology teachers and subject experts, a comprehensive Biology Lab Manual was compiled. This manual has since been widely accepted and used as a reference by students throughout Goa, ensuring consistency in practical assessments during board examinations.
In 2024, BIOTAG proudly launched the BIOTAG PRE-NEET Test—a preliminary practice exam designed specifically to help NEET aspirants from Goa prepare for national-level medical entrance exams. The initiative received overwhelming support and appreciation from students and parents alike. In response to popular demand, the PRE-NEET test was expanded in 2025 to include students from both Class XI and XII. Each year, more than 2,500 students specializing in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology register for this exam from across Goa.
In addition to these major initiatives, BIOTAG regularly undertakes the following activities:
A) Organizing workshops and training programs for both students and teachers to enhance biology education in line with current academic needs.
B) Assisting the Department of Education in conducting orientation programs for biology teachers, including sessions on syllabus updates and innovative teaching methods.
C) Supporting the planning and execution of various biology-related activities such as student projects, field visits, and laboratory practical’s.
D) Facilitating educational visits to institutions relevant to the field of biology, thereby broadening students’ exposure to real-world applications.
E) Raising awareness about environmental conservation among students through dedicated programs and activities.
Through these initiatives, BIOTAG continues to serve as a dynamic and dedicated platform for advancing biology education and inspiring the next generation of life science learners in Goa.
